The University of California held bargaining sessions with the University Professional and Technical Employees (UPTE) on July 31 and August 1 for new contracts for healthcare professionals, technical employees, and researchers.
During the meetings, UC passed proposals for the Healthcare Professionals (HX), Technical Employees (TX), and Researchers (RX) units, specifying parameters on hours of work, transfer and promotion, and out-of-classification pay. UC also added a revised arbitration proposal, which included a list of new potential arbitrators.
UC and UPTE have set confirmed dates for more than 12 bargaining sessions over the next few months. UC is committed to putting together proposals that support employees with fair wages. The next bargaining sessions are scheduled for August 14, 15 and 16.
The University highly values its longstanding partnership with UPTE. The University’s proposals are not intended to be a "starting point" but rather reasonable offers that reflect the significance of UPTE-represented employees' services. UC will continue to carefully consider union concerns, review their proposals and counterproposals, and update you on the negotiation process and our actions.
