University representatives met with the American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees, Local Union 3299 (AFSCME) on February 5 and 6, continuing negotiations on new Patient Care Technical and Service contracts.
Items proposed by the University during the Feb. 5-6 session included:
- Articles 7 and 8: Discipline and Dismissal – adding clarification on notice of intent delivery in a suspension or dismissal, employee response guidelines, and right of representation.
- Article 43: Vacation – adding vacation hours and usage information and an option to establish rotational vacation scheduling where needed.
AFSCME proposed several articles during this session, including holidays, development, health and safety, and other issues. UC will carefully review the union’s proposals, its interests, and the cost and feasibility of the proposed terms. We will meet with AFSCME again on February 22-23.
The University is dedicated to making fair proposals reflective of the critical services both units provide. Our proposals are not designed to be a “starting point” but rather reasonable offers that represent our valued employees. We’ll continue providing up-to-date information so you understand what we are doing and why. Thank you for your important contributions to the University of California.
