Bargaining Update for Health Care Professionals (HX)

UC offers enhanced proposal with guaranteed pay increases and quality benefits

UC continues to work hard on a new, long-term contract that provides you and your colleagues with guaranteed annual wage increases, quality health care and excellent retirement benefits.

At the April 23-24 bargaining session, UC offered UPTE enhanced equity increases to its comprehensive, four-year proposal:

Guaranteed annual pay increases for next four years: A 2 percent across-the-board pay increase for all bargaining unit members in salary ranges.

In addition, UCSF proposed the following equity increases to the below job titles:

  • 6% pay increase for career UCSF Child Life Specialists;
  • 6% pay increase for career UCSF Child Life Teachers;
  • 6% pay increase for career UCSF Recreational Therapists;
  • 4% pay increase for career UCSF Clinical Lab Scientists;
  • 4% pay increase for career UCSF Cyto Technogists;
  • 2% pay increase for per diem UCSF Child Life Specialists;
  • 2% pay increase for per diem UCSF Child Life Teachers; and
  • 2% pay increase for per diem UCSF Recreational Therapists.
  • Increase Night Shift Differential for UCSF Clinical Lab Scientists from $6.50 to $7.50.
  • Add Weekend Shift Differential for UCSF Physician Assistants of $4.00 per hour.

UCSF also proposed the creation of a new Recreational Therapist 3 classification and updated career ladder for the series. UCSF also provided a career ladder and individual reclassifications into this new career ladder.

Quality health benefits: Excellent health benefits for you and your family at the same rates as other UC employees with similar salaries.

Excellent retirement benefits: Current employees will see no change in their pension benefits. Future employees hired after a new contract is ratified would be given a choice between a traditional pension plan and a 401(k)-style plan. UC’s retirement benefits under its choice program are among the most generous in the market – few employers offer this kind of choice or a pension plan. Offering future employees this choice will not harm the pension benefits of current employees.

Long-term stability: A four-year contract that provides both employees and the university with stability through 2021.

Thank you for the contributions you make every day at our medical centers and campus health centers.
